SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Senior guard
Brian Scordato (Mt. Kisco, NY/Horace Greeley) scored 19 points, and had three points and two assists in the overtime, to lead Union to a 68-61 triumph over Vassar in Liberty League men's basketball action at the Viniar Athletic Center Saturday.
The Dutchmen improve to 11-7 overall and 4-3 in the Liberty League, while the Brewers fell to 10-7 and 2-5.
John Cagianello (Wethersfield, CT/Loomis Chaffee) scored 12 points and Scordato had seven rebounds for the Dutchmen.
Joseph Mackey (Flushing, NY/Archbishop Molloy) scored 12 points and had three steals with three assists for the hosts.
Vassar was led by sophomore guard Tyson Brazell (Salt Lake City, UT/Waterford School), who scored a game-high 28 points with nine rebounds. Lawrence Avitabile (Southington, CT/Southington) also had nine rebounds to go along with 14 points for Vassar.

Chris Murphy (Hastings-on-Hudson, NY/Iona Prep) made a three-pointer from the left side with 10 seconds left to tie it, with an assist from Scordato. In the extra session, Union had a 10-0 run in the first four minutes for a 68-58 lead with one minute left in the overtime. Union led 32-29 at halftime, and neither team led by more then five points in the second half.
Union shot 52% for the game while Vassar shot 32% but forced 17 turnovers. The Brewers outrebounded the Dutchmen, 37-34, and made 13 of 14 free throws on the day.
Union plays a Liberty League game Tuesday night at 8 p.m. at Skidmore, while Vassar plays Friday at Clarkson at 8 p.m.
